I’ve known Charlie Vela since back in the day when he used to rock the drums with .thedecember drive, one of the valley’s first pioneering indie rock bands, maybe much longer than that, even I forget. Since then, he’s been engineering and producing for some great regional and national talent out of his makeshift studios at home. Recently he called me up to check out his new workplace in Edinburg alongside Roli, a producer who’s been in the business for quite some time in Spanish rock bands as well as a music engineer. WOW. The smell of fresh-scented wood enters your nostrils as you walk in, and you can’t help but enjoy every single whiff, much less the awe-inspiring beauty you instantly surround yourself with. Bands and artists interested in some serious studio time with some talented engineers and producers, there’s no other place like this south of Austin. Here’s a few photos I took to get them an early start with their marketing campaign.

Meet Dani. An incredibly talented, multifaceted 18-year-old singer/songwriter from McAllen who loves to express herself through her voice, acting, and creating s’mores. With the help of guitarist Thomas Eubanks, we all recently goofed off and magically produced her first acoustic video covering Katy Perry’s the one that got away, which we are releasing tonight. You’ll be hearing soo much more from her, so get with it!

This is what I love about NSN Festival. I brought in an entirely NEW artist from Washington DC named MARKY, who had NEVER even played a show outside of his area till NSN. He’s even on a major label with Universal Republic, but doesn’t have much label support right now so they’re doing things on their own. His manager is a friend of mine who’s apart of the team behind LMFAO, so when I was presented with the idea of Marky coming down, and after a few solid listens and getting hooked myself, I made the opportunity available to them, along with getting him a show in South Padre just for kicks. His set went from nobody in front of Stage 2 to about 700 people midway through the set, proving that he deserved to be at NSN and making hundreds of new fans. GOLD. Last week, NSN was able to introduce you to new artists that you normally wouldn’t have given a chance, but ultimately making a lot of you into new fans. Marky and his entire team are good people, working hard to get heard and becoming the new breakout artist. Follow him on twitter or visit his website to download his brand new (free) mixtape, Divine Intervention which came out a day before NSN.
